Trebinje

Many people say that Trebinje is like a picture, only that it needs to be framed. Trebinje is situated in the Trebišnjica River valley, at the tripoint of B&H, Montenegro and Croatia. It is one of the most beautiful destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its southernmost town.

A top tourist attraction in Trebinje is the Museum of Hezegovina, which was founded back in 1752 owing to the idea of Jovan Dučić, the most renowned Trebinje-born poet and diplomat. Jovan Dučić was buried in the Church of the Holy Annunciation, inside Herzegovinian Gračanica, erected on the Crkvina hill above Trebinje which offers beautiful views of Trebinje.

High on the list of the oldest buildings in Trebinje is Aslaganića Bridge, the endowment of Mehmed Pasha Sokolović, and close by there is a church next to which Squire Grd, governor of Trebinje, had been buried, some say that his remains lie under the most famous known medieval tombstone in B&H.

Trebinje is a bit of phenomenon with its 260 sunny days in the year, making it one of the sunniest cities in the Balkans. Water park  “Grad sunca” (City of the Sun) is situated a few kilometers from the center of Trebinje, at Draženska Gora, and it consists of the greatest water park in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which stretches out over 79000 square meters.

The region is also known for good wines, with records that testify of this dating back all the way to the Middle Ages. On the fiery Trebišnjica River, which separates the city into two parts, twenty bridges have been built, which is why the locals often call it “little Venice”.
